Supporting Management

"I was very concerned we were not meeting the needs of the majority of our residents, most of whom have some degree of hearing loss. Since Hearing Matters in Care trained our staff and created Hearing Loss Champions; this transformed the experience of residents with hearing loss. They were becoming socially isolated but are now engaged and taking part in social life again." Sara Ramalho, Registered Manager
We provide experiential bespoke training courses for all staff within a home, promote a person-centred approach to residents individual hearing needs and support the development of care plans that address the biological, psychological and social needs of the resident. The biological is around ensuring that hearing aids, if appropriate are clean, working and are used effectively, but also ensuring staff and residents in the home are aware of and have access to cutting edge equipment that can enable more effective social interaction.
Before our input, care homes usually have no knowledge or understanding of equipment that people with hearing loss can use, such as the personal communicator, TV listener and other devices such as amplified phones and so on. This equipment can make a tremendous impact on a residents' daily life and it is vitally important that staff are informed about it.
