Crossness Pumping Station was built by Sir Joseph Bazalgette to deal with London’s sewage

The pumping station was built in response to the ‘Great Stink’ of 1858 when the polluted River Thames emitted an unbearable smell, causing a health crisis in London

Join us for an interesting talk on the history of Crossness and the sewage system / pumping station for London

There will be a guided tour of the site and engines

An opportunity to look around the Great Stink exhibition and extraordinary collection of toilets
