People living with tinnitus

About 30% of people will experience tinnitus at some point in their lives, and around 1 in 7 adults in the UK live with persistent tinnitus.

Tinnitus is the medical term for sounds that people hear without any external source – like ringing, buzzing, or humming – that can be distressing and affect daily life.

Tinnitus Management

Our expert hearing therapist offers Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, which aims to reduce the perception of these sounds and make them less disruptive. The therapy is based on the understanding that the emotional and nervous systems largely influence how bothersome tinnitus feels, rather than the auditory system itself. The brain is capable of habituating to neutral sounds over time once negative associations are diminished. The goal is to help you become less aware of tinnitus and less bothered by it when it does occur.

The London Tinnitus Support Group meets quarterly on Monday evenings from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm at JDA. These gatherings provide a supportive environment where members can share stories, gain mutual support, and listen to presentations from audiologists, ENT specialists, and therapists.

The group is organised by volunteer Richard Kaufman. For more information, please contact him at LondonTSG@outlook.com.
