GS50+ Talk: Power of Attorney

It is uncomfortable to think about what would happen if you could no longer take care of your own finances, or make decisions for yourself about your own health and welfare. But what would happen if you had a serious accident, stroke or dementia without sorting it first?

• Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that authorises a trusted friend or relative to look after your financial affairs for you — to write cheques for you, pay your bills, claim your benefits for you.

• And if you lost the capacity to make your own decisions about your health and welfare, LPA enables someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf.

Michael Anvoner is a highly respected solicitor who specialises in Power of Attorney, Wills, Probate, Trusts and Inheritance Tax. Michael will explain the importance of planning ahead and setting up LPAs. This will give you peace of mind that you have given your instructions while you are of sound mind, in case you become incapable in the future.
